Industrial lubricants are basically used to reduce frictions, binding, and wear of moving parts of a machinery. The key functions of lubricants are: • Keep separate moving parts of a machinery or system • Reduce friction between moving parts • Prevent wear by keeping the moving parts apart • Transfer heat and power • Provide protection against corrosion & rust for internal & external surfaces • Carry away internally generated debris and external impurity Industrial lubricants are available in a variety of forms such as liquid, Greases, solids, pastes, waxes, high & low viscosity lubricating oils, etc. Lubricating oils often consists of Lanolin, mineral oils, natural oils, synthetic oils, marine oils, petroleum based compounds, silicone-based fluids, etc. These are several applications of lubricants. One of the most important applications of lubricants is in the form of motor oil or engine oil. The prime function of motor oil is to provide lubrication between the surfaces of metal parts in the engine. It cleans and protects your engine against rust and corrosion. It reduces friction caused by metal parts of an engine and prevents them from heat and damage. These days, synthetic oils are being used as a substitute of Motor Oils or lubricating oils. They are manufactured widely to meet oil shortage. The most popular form of motor oil is gear oil. It is a fluid lubricant which is used in vehicle’s gears or gear boxes to reduce the friction and wear produced between the teeth surfaces. It is advisable; always use high quality gear oils in your vehicles. High quality gear oils protect your geared system from oxidation, thermal degradation, wear, corrosion, rust, etc. These days, in vehicle’s breaking system a special types of liquid lubricant is used which is known as hydraulic oils or fluid. Hydraulic oils are consists of petroleum oils and synthetic oils. They are specially are of high viscosity and used in brakes, power steering, and to transmit power in hydraulic system and power transmission equipments. They are used in a variety of applications and industries. Some products of industrial hydraulic oils are designed for aircrafts, ships, tractors, and other machineries. Cutting Oil or grinding oil is also a form of industrial lubricants. Grinding fluids or cuttings oils work as coolant and reduce friction coefficient by lubricating the cutting side of tools. While cutting, boring, grinding, shaping or milling the use of grinding fluids make the task easier. Slideway Oils are also used as lubricants as in the process like grinding, boring, cutting, etc.
