University Of Illinois Clothing, Sportswear and Gifts

Everyone's life is the balance of taking stuff in and leaving stuff behind. Certainly there are some things that have serious value beyond their thread count. Should you, for example, be a graduate of the University of Illinois, it makes sense that you'd have a few articles of Fighting Illini clothing in your closet, to remind you of the times you may not even remember. But that you want to keep close for as long as those threads hold together.

Now how can anyone put a value on a hoodie or a pair of sweatpants that most likely witnessed some great and terrible things? Back in the yonder times, armor that saw many wars was hung up in castles, as reminders. They had a place of honor. That's how I think of the college gear in my closet, the reminder of strange and wonderful battles.

Of course, there are love stories, too. The sharing of a jacket with the school logo, the borrowing of a too-big t-shirt for the walk home, the requisite moment where the man must try and squeeze into his girl's gym shorts. It's a terrible spectacle, to be sure, but it's a shared one. Burned into your brain, whether you like it or not.

Clothing, especially with the bold colors and prominent logos of the college genre of clothing, should leave an impression. And it should demand the kind of improvisation that leads to a man in short shorts or, as inevitably, the cutting off of sleeves to emphasize those muscles that fabric just can't contain. Now I'm not suggesting that this is good or bad. Only that some fashion decisions are best left to professionals.

Still, the clothes are there for you. They sacrifice themselves for your comfort and (attempts at) style. One must respect such things. College is a time for learning how to value the things of the world, and the clothing of one's school is an important lesson. Whether it's a matter of wearing something off-the-rack or taking the scissors to it in an attempt at individuality, still there's that investment of time. On your part and on the part of your clothes. And so are you bonded.

The clothes, they come and go. Like love, like wars. It's few times in your life when you can share a logo and a color scheme with so many. And be able to believe in the message. It's probably worth paying attention to your gear, your Fighting Illini stuff, as it follows you through time. See when it appears, how long it trails along, when and where and why it turns off on its own. It might give you an idea of why you're making the turns you are. Of course, it might not too. But there have been stranger compasses to guide the destinies of man.
