These days many people enjoy a different kind of water sport called kite boarding where the rider stands on a surfboard which is termed the kiteboard and has a large, controllable, kite which propels him forward due to the force of the wind. He can choose to use foot straps to be bound to the kiteboard.
Various innovations have been made to the kite design and it is now equipped with safety release systems and comes with instructions. There are various riding styles too such as wakestyle, freestyle, waveriding, freeride, cruising and jumping.
It is better if you take lessons before you start out as it is quite a dangerous sport and by taking lessons you will get familiar with the equipment. This is not going to take you too long as you can be up and riding on the water in as short as a few hours.
The kite boarding kit could cost you anywhere around $2000 and above whereas the lessons will be only about $150. A novice is sure to drop the kite many times and your kite will surely get roughed up in the beginning. You will meet a lot of others just like you in the training school and these training packages are available in plenty at quite cheap rates. But it is very important because one just cannot learn kite boarding just by browsing through the internet or going through some manuals. There are some complicated techniques to be learnt like rigging the lines, launching and re-launching the kite, going upwind. You might drop your kite and might end up losing your kite board. In such cases you need to be prepared.

After getting one, you need to get some firsthand instruction from a proper tutor and soon you may even be able to perform some freestyle tricks too. Summer is the best time for kite boarding but there are a few who prefer to go during the cold winters too. Your kits must be in excellent condition of a good quality and naturally, you need a lot of waves too, to enjoy your sport.
