Medical Review For Sports Conditioning

Medical Review

You will also have to see a sports medication doctor to have a medical screening completed. This involves a sporting hero questionnaire about your general health, family history, and injury and illness history. It also may include a comprehensive medical exam evaluating general health and covers ear, nose and throat, skin, cardio, chest, spirometry ( lung capacity ), abdomen, marfanoid feature, excessive joint mobility or hypermobility, neurological exam, and the tanner stages of development and pathology.

Iand#39;d also strongly advise you have a CRA Cardiac Risk Assessment. Undiagnosed cardiac conditions are a real risk to sports people. The unknown fact is that each week, twelve seemingly fit young people die in the UK from undiagnosed heart problems. This is a preventable tragedy. A 12 year old tennis player I have met was one of the fortunate ones. He suffered a coronary on court and luckily a doctor was nearby and able to help right away until the ambulance arrived and the young boy did recover.

Also, I've seen examples of professional athletes falling ill with illnesses like chickenpox which is 99% preventable with an injection, which nearly everybody has as a young child. Imagine coaching all your life and making the Olympic team and not being about to compete as you came down with chicken pox. You'd be completely shattered. And yet it occurs. Don't let it be you! Get a medical review.

Functional Movement Screening

In order to isolate the physical or functional limitation of a sportsman, the bodys basic movement pattens also should be considered. If feeble links aren't identified, the body will compensate, causing inefficient movements and this can ultimately lead to a cut in performance and an increase in injuries.

The functional movement screen is therefore another all-encompassing screening tool that is also recommended. Functional Movement Screen Tests include Deep Squat, Hurdle Step, In-Line Lunge, Shoulder Mobility, Active Straight Leg Raise, Trunk Stability Push-Up, and Rotary Stability.

Musculoskeletal Screening

Another assessment I strongly suggest is a musculoskeletal screening which helps with the detecting of sites or areas at injury risk and so provides a vital means by which to prevent injury. A sports physiotherapist is the best person to do that screening. By identifying factors which will repress ideal sporting performance, defensive measures can be brought to minimise potential injuries. The musculoskeletal examination typically includes posture, flexibility, strength and stability of the following areas: trunk / backbone, shoulder girdle, elbow and forearm, wrist and hand, pelvic girdle, hip and thigh, knee, ankle and foot.

On the completion of the screening process, feedback is given to players, coaches and fitness trainers and defensive and remedial strategies are implemented to reduce injury occurrence and maximize the physical performance potential of the player. in this manner, screening best allows a fitness tutor to prep a training programme that particularly caters for the persons wishes.

I should stress here to make certain you understand your report, what you have to do and the seriousness to your sport. Many physiotherapists will prepare a superb report and outline but in language you donand#39;t understand far less know what to do to fix it. Make sure you ask questions and understand precisely what it all means, why it's required, and most vitally, how to improve your faults and perform the prescribed exercises correctly.
